Mayor’s Welcome to the Village of Rockford.
Welcome to Rockford, Ohio. Since I’ve gotten your attention there are a few things that I would like to inform you about Rockford. As you may not know we’re on the banks of the St. Mary’s River, and we’re the first town to be established in Mercer County Ohio. Rockford was an important trade designation in the 1800’s and we’ve evolved from those earlier days to now. We now have a major Highway, US 33. This highway links us to places like Columbus and Ft. Wayne Indiana and Interstates 75 and 65, or even closer to US 30 to our North via State Route 118.
Rockford is a small village of 1,051 as of the 2020 Census. Our town isn’t about how many people we have living here, it is about the “people” that we do have living here. People that truly care for one another are what makes our town unique. It’s where next-door neighbors genuinely look out for their neighbors and friends.
We have businesses that call Rockford their home like Betsey’s Boutique Shop and Brand-It Marketing that have greater reach than just locally. But you also need to check out Ole’ 1820 – carryout and lunch/ dinner specials, Second Crossing Brewery, and the new Grains of Love Sourdough Bakery Cafe just to name a few. Many of our businesses survived during the troubling times of Covid that threatened all small businesses. We had a terrible fire that destroyed two of our downtown businesses. Holeshot Accessories will be reopening soon. But out of this we’re getting specialized businesses that are helping Rockford reinvent itself.
Along with this we’re redoing Franklin Street, it started earlier this past year and is expected to be completed in late June. That is, if the weather holds out. So, if you are traveling around Rockford please avoid Franklin Street as much as possible as it is closed and only open to people that live on that street.
It’s springtime and we all need to enjoy the warmer weather it brings. So, enjoy our parks, our village, and even more enjoy our people. We thank you for visiting our town even if it’s online! Come and grow with us, we’re always open to a friendly new face or business!
God Bless !
