Mayor’s Welcome to the Village of Rockford.
Welcome to Rockford, Ohio, a historic village on the banks of the St. Mary’s River and the first town established in Mercer County. Once an important trade destination in the 1800s, Rockford has grown into a small but well-connected community. U.S. 33 links us to Columbus and Fort Wayne, Indiana, while providing convenient access to Interstate 75, Interstate 65, and U.S. 30. U.S. 33 also intersects with State Route 118, leading visitors directly into our downtown.
History is at the heart of who we are, and we are proud of it. Our Village Hall also serves as a museum, where visitors can find artifacts dating from the early 1800s to today. Our park is home to a complete log cabin believed to have housed our town founder in the early 1820s.
Rooted in history, Rockford is also focused on the future. New housing is under construction in several locations, and a new business park is on the way, offering easy access and visibility for businesses planning to grow here. Rockford is prepared for this growth, with the infrastructure in place to support it.
Rockford is a small village of 1,051 residents, according to the 2020 Census. We have a beautiful park filled with opportunities for fun and recreation. The park features five ball diamonds, two separate playgrounds, pickleball and sand volleyball courts, a splash pad, and a pond. Bring the crowd, we also have two shelter houses and a large pavilion. We are proud of our park and how well it serves our community.
Parkway Local Schools is located in Rockford and serves students in grades K–12 in one main building, which opened in 2006. The district was formed in 1961 through the consolidation of the Rockford, Willshire, and Mendon schools.
Rockford is home to businesses such as Betsey’s Boutique, Grains of Love Sourdough Bakery and Cafe, and Brand-It Marketing, each reaching customers beyond the local area. The Fremont Company is a state-of-the-art production plant that produces many private-label ketchups and barbecue sauces for domestic and international markets, including “Rockford Catsup,” a local favorite. We are also home to Tuway Manufacturing, a company more than one hundred years old that makes innovative cleaning products and programs.
Summer is here, so make plans to visit Rockford, Ohio. There is so much to see and do!
God Bless, Mayor Ron Searight
