Twyla Hayes, Chamber Emcee, took the podium, welcoming guests. She introduced the evening’s speaker, Bruce Boguski, a motivational speaker from Findlay, OH. Bruce took the podium and spoke first about his auto accident as a teen that left him partially paralyzed. In learning to walk again, Bruce learned to let go of himself and let God take over. He asked the crowd to consider what holds you back?

He explained that through his college classes he learned that the Reticular Activating System, of the brain (the little voice in the back of the mind) produces 50,000 thoughts a day. But Bruce says it lies about your abilities. So we must live in the now and affirm ourselves daily by repeating pep talks like: “I am always calm and confident under pressure.” Affirmations come back to you!

Marie Miller, president, then gave a Chamber Report. She mentioned all of the new businesses: Curvy Closet; Flower Power Catering; Laura Putman Photography; Luginbill Construction; Mercer Metal; 2nd Crossing Brewery; S & B Photography and Stained-Glass Paradise.

She mentioned the Rockford Bicentennial Plans are coming along great with a mural nearing completion on the wall of the Fire Department. The 200th Birthday Celebration of Rockford coming in 2020 is keeping organizers busy as they plan many activities spread throughout the year with the kick-off to be held on New Year’s Eve.

“The experiences were great, and I learned so much”, said Joel.

Twyla Hayes thanked Joel Henkle for completing the 2019 Leadership in Action Program through the Celina/Mercer Chamber.

Twyla Hayes invited her husband Curtis “Pete” Hayes to the podium as owners of Brand It Marketing and the 2018 recipients of the Business of the Year Award, and presented the 2019 Business of the Year Award to Fremont Company.

Then the time came to name the winner of the Citizen of the Year for 2019, with went to Lisa Kuhn. Presenter was Steve Thompson, last year’s winner. The presentation, carefully prepared by Stacie Ford was read and everyone stood to applaud and congratulate Lisa following an endearing look at her life.
