Meeting Minutes: February 11, 2016

February 11, 2016

Meeting was brought to order by President Mary Beougher at 8 am at the Rockford Village Hall.  There were 10 members present.  Mary thanked everyone for attending.

The meeting began with January minutes and the January financial information.

All approved the reading and the finance report. In addition – we have 59 paid memberships so far.

Member Minute:

Robbie Peel of Barrys – The hamloaf is a best seller ! The secret recipe ham loaf is eaten all around the country.

Larry Sielschott of WCSM Radio – The Spring Fling Home Garden & Trade Show will take place at the Galleria on February 28th from 11:30 am – 3:30 pm.  Web site stats – WCSM has over 6.2 million hits for 2015.

Larry has also contacted Doug Hole to let him know that the Chamber is willing to help continue the Sock Hop tradition going since the passing of Tom Rogers.  The Chamber  will be getting out the ice cream machine with the help of Norm and Dan.   Several members have agreed to donate some of the ice cream mix.  Larry, Mary, Nancy, and Jamie all stated they will donate towards the ice cream. The Sock Hop is scheduled for August 6th.

Nancy Leighner – brought in some newspaper clippings from her daughter in Texas. They includeded some fundraising ideas.

Greg Puthoff of Parkway Schools – Winter sports coming to an end. Parkway getting ready to begin a one on one computer program.  With the cost of technology coming down the school was able to purchase 14 tablets for the program.  The tablets will stay at the school.  Upcoming summer projects include security cameras and repair of the visitors football bleacher area.  They are currently working on a 10 year project list which includes paving the parking lots and some decisions regarding the football field and the home side bleachers.  They will be seeking some community input for several of the projects.  The Parkway school system has not asked for new money in 26 years.  The levies have been renewals instead of replacements.  School buses for instance cost nearly $100,000 and they try to purchase 1 a year.

Norm VanTilburg of Shanes Crossing Historical Society – The next Bicentennial meeting will be held on March 7th at 7 pm at the Village Hall and museum.  We recently received some old football films from the 60’s along with a projector.

Dan Henkle of Henkle Insurance – Stressed the idea of getting the community together. If every business in town would let 1 of their people get involved in a community organization and the school would allow the teachers to get involved, we would all benefit as a stronger community.  Greg Puthoff mentioned that there are some organizations at school that need to do community service and to contact him with any needs.

Leah Hays of The Laurels of Shane Hill –  The Laurels recently hired a new administrator.  Dallas Agner is a Parkway graduate.   We are glad to have him on board.

Mary Beougher of Community Health Professionals – is ready to shake, rattle and roll Rockford !  She recently attended the Bicentennial committee meeting and is getting involved with that.  She gave them some ideas and suggestions.    The next Chamber meeting will be held on March 10th @ 8 am.

Mary has talked with a business that is willing to print the directories for us for free. This will be a huge cost savings.  Her adult daycare will put together  the directories and we will have a staple party. Talked about adding a page for the bicentennial information and a page for the RADC / sub division information.

We will not be doing the flower power fundraiser this year. Just didn’t seem like there was any interest.

Norm mentioned that the Parkway Music Boosters will be having the Lima Area Concert Band to the Parkway High School on August 7th.  They are looking for sponsorship to bring the band to Rockford.  Sponsorships are $100 and sponsors will be listed on the flyer.  Motion Norm.  Second Mary to sponsor the Lima Area Concert Band with a $100 donation.  All approved.

Meeting adjourned just before 9 am.
