Meeting Minutes: May 8, 2014

Meeting called to order on May 8th by President Jane Cozad at 8 am.
We welcomed guest speaker Bill Steinbrunner of the American Red Cross. He explained the need for some volunteers and advisory board members from this area. (Marie prepared a memo that was sent to chamber members that may have not attended the meeting). Thank you Bill. The minutes from April were read and approved.
Treasurer report was given. Our general fund has balance of $2372.74. We had a few more memberships paid. We need to decide two items regarding finances. The Combined Charities Fund and the CD at First Financial. Mary will do some research on the Combined Charities Fund. Motion Dan. Second Larry to cash in the CD and put the monies in the general fund. All in favor.
We are also working on a print directory. Marie has come up with some better numbers for printing. We are now at $1200 instead of $2,000. Still looking into options. If we want done in the next month it’s going to be a challenge. Discussed the idea of selling ads in the directory. At this time, we have tabled that idea.
Rockford Chamber Business Expo during Community Day: Motion Bob. Second Marie to cancel. All in favor. There just isn’t enough businesses wanting to participate. Lisa to contact those that had signed up.
FUN Challenge – a facebook page and event has been set up. Registrations are beginning to come in. The early bird special of $40 is no longer. The current cost is now $50.00 to participate or sponsor a team. We have 11 sponsored teams, 2 prize donations and 9 activities.
The next Social Media Class will be held on Monday – May 12th at 6:00 pm at the Rockford Library basement. Chamber members $10.00 , Non-Chamber members $15.00. Invite some friends that could benefit from classes !
Congratulations to First Financial Bank–for being selected as the May Chamber Business of the Month.
New web site work continues. Marie will share some statics at next meeting.
Scholarship update: Jordan Bollenbacher was chosen. He is going into the business /accounting field. Thank you Marti ! The presentation will be on Wednesday – May 14th at 7 pm.
Christmas Event planning. Motion Bob. Second Larry. The Chamber will help sponsor the event but they will not be running the event. Jane will contact some of the downtown businesses that showed interest last year to discuss. The chamber is putting an August 1st deadline for go ahead / date / and list of those involved. October 1st will be the deadline for the actual agenda / schedule of events.
Some discussion on happenings at local businesses. Tastee Twirl and The Carryout are under new ownership and new menus. Rockford Carry Out & Dining has launched a new name, new website, and new menu. They will be doing an open house once all the renovations have been completed.
In other business:
Bob Maurer reported that the library will be getting some outside structure work done beginning this month.
Dan Henkle reported that the East sign has been fixed and replaced. They did nice work. In the future, we would like to do some fund raising to get another sign at the North entrance. Tom Rogers has given permission to put sign on his property.
Marie said the updated phone listing is complete but needs someone to review before printing.
